About Us

READ-SL is non-political, non-religious and non-discriminative organization founded in 2016 by a renowned educationalist and Development worker Mr. Alfred V. Gborie. He teamed up with other likeminded professionals to form this organization with a view of improving and upgrading the quality of life for rural folks especially the youth and women in communities in the Southern Region of Sierra Leone.

Theory of Change

READ-SL believes that to improve the quality of life for rural population they must fully participate and take the initiative to push forward their own development.

Our goals are deeply intertwined: READSL collaborates with communities, partners, a collection of Civil Society Organizations and likeminded allies in promoting climate smart Agriculture, renewable energy, energy efficiency and related infrastructure to combat climate change and address other urgent environmental challenges by developing unexpected, real-world solutions to create sustainable livelihoods on the frontlines of poverty and overcoming injustice, especially for women and vulnerable groups.

Governance

The organization has Board of Directors comprising of 5 members 2 of which are female.
The organization is legally registered with the Ministry of Planning & Economic Development (MoPED), the Sierra Leone Association of NGOs (SLANGO) and the Bo district council.

READ-SL has signed service level agreements with Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC).
The organization’s official banker is Rokel Commercial Bank and a TIN Number (1001092491) with the NRA.

Our Mission

READ-SL aims to improve the quality of vulnerable rural population in the Southern Region through Research opportunities, Green Skills training, job placement for youth, Innovation and creative technology, Renewable Energy Skills training, support climate smart agricultural practices, raising awareness and promoting climate resilient solutions of our interventions through community structures.

Our Vision

READ-SL envisages a country where rural communities will attain improved quality of life and empowered to make meaningful contributions to development efforts in their communities. Gender equality and transformation and the disproportionate targeting and participation of women will form the backbone of its programming.
