RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY SKILLS TRAINING

RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY SKILLS TRAINING

About the Program

Faced by an acute electricity shortage, Sierra Leone has given high political priority to the expansion of renewable energies and the improvement of energy efficiency. This is reflected in dedicated strategies and support programmes.

This program is designed to give trainees the skills and knowledge needed to effectively create, install and maintain functional renewable energy systems. Trainees are introduced to the different sectors of the renewable energy field. Both theoretical and practical applications in solar power, wind, solar thermal technologies and other forms of alternative energies will be explored.

Objectives

The Renewable Energy Technology (RET) program is designed for Trainees interested in careers in renewable energy technology. Focusing on the practices, skills, and knowledge necessary for employment in the numerous industries associated with the emerging field of renewable energy.

Activities

  • develop Competency Based Curricula in collaboration with other stakeholders in the sector.
  • link trainees to employment and mandatory two month on-the-job training opportunities.
  • assists graduates seek microfinance support from NGOs and microfinance institutions to startup businesses

Expected Outcome

RET provides learning experiences through the implementation of an engaged and applied curriculum delivery system that addresses the various processes and services which constitute the industry.

Trainees will study energy systems, harnessing energy from renewable sources- sun, wind, water, geothermal heat, and biomass – in order to have a sustainable environment that will meet our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.

Trainees will also be able to design an energy conversion system that extracts energy from nature, while preserving a clean and sustainable environment. Designing different energy production systems from solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and hydro powers will be covered.
